So you want to install an aftermarket heatsink on your ram? You may want to think again or at least take your time when doing so especially if your removing a stock heat spreader. These pics are from some memory that a customer brought in asking if we could fix his memory as he tried to remove the heat spreader and well as you will see there would be no way lol but sure was interesting.

ya I almost started laughing when I saw what he did but I held back, so in the end I sold him new memory and advised him that if he wasnt sure what he was doing then to well not do it lol. |

The OCZ platinum heat spreaders are epoxied onto the ram chips, so not a good idea to try to remove them... Did you attempt to remove the chips from the HS, or did you just leave it? |

Okay maybe I wasnt clear enough lol I did NOT do this, Im not that stupid lol, that was done by a customer, he tried to remove the heat spreader and then after damaging his memory came in to where I work to try and get it fixed lol I ended up selling him new ram as thats not fixable so he left his bad memory here so I just had to take pics and show people what you shouldnt do lol. |

I know you didn't do that. I was just wondering if you then tried to remove the chips from the HS since the customer left the RAM with you. |

What is a safe way to remove the sink from the RAM? I doubt that even 99% isopropyl can weaken the adhesive. |

well in this case, if the heatsink is using thermal tape, that is easier to remove then some epoxies but I would recommend heating up the ram sinks with a hair dryer and then carefully with a fine knife or craft knife carefully prye the heatsink from the memory nice and slowly but be warned we hold no fault if anyone who uses this advice screws up
