Scythe "MUSASHI" Twin-Fan VGA Cooler
You get all the heatsinks you could need to configure any number of video cards so don't be surprised if you don't end up using them all as you may not need to. You also get some normal thermal paste but as usual we would recommend going with a name brand thermal paste, we used OCZ Freeze for our test. Next up in the hardware that you get with this cooler is the mounting hardware and the back plate which is designed to accommodate different pcb board layouts. Oh and that copper plate you see there, well that is a shim in case your trying to cool a GPU that is recessed and the base of the heatsink can not reach it.
Now it's time for the heatsink. This thing is with out a doubt pretty and is designed to be low profile, however it will still use up a PCI bay so it's not a single slot design. When we say low profile, we mean that most aftermarket coolers that have a similar design use standard fans which cause that heatsink to use up three PCI slots whereas this has been designed to only take up two.
The fans measure 100x100x12mm and produce around 11.45 ~ 27.60CFM @ 12.50 ~ 29.22dBA. These fans are for the most part half the height of most fans and this is one of the main factors for this heatsink in taking up only two PCI slots.
The fans are mounted to the heatsink with two retention clips on each side of the fans. The fans are then wired to a variable fan speed controller that controls each fan separately. Below the fans are two copper heatpipes that run through 55 aluminum fins to dissipate the heat from the base plate and at the end of the heatpipes are nice finishing acorn style nuts to add to the finished look of this heatsink.
Now lets look at the base of this heatsink. The based has a very flat and polished finish, and is plated in nickel which gives it a great mirror finish. Something else you might have noticed when you look closer at the base is that there is a plate that is attached above the base plate and has numerous screw holes which is for attaching the stand off to the appropriate card configuration.
When comparing this heatsink to the stock heatsink, there is simply no comparison right away your thinking oh ya this is going to be a beast compared to the stock heatsink and with that in mind lets get this cooler installed.
