SilenX HTPC Cabinet Cooling System
Lets start with the fan grills, but more specifically what it takes to get this kit and your cabinet to become one. With that said, lets break down the installation of the cabinet grill. It requires a cabinet with a thickness of < .75" (<19mm) and >2.5" (>64mm) of clearence behind the cabinet for the fan and frame to be installed. You'll require a #2 Phillips screwdriver, as well as a saw to punch out a 5" (127mm) diameter opening for the mounting frame. After the hole is cut out, it should take an average of 5-10 minutes to install the entire system and get it up and working. Once all of that is done, the grill is no ready to be locked into place.
Taking a closer look at the wiring of the SilenX fan, it is easy to see that this isn't your standard case fan hook up. In fact, it is a DC Barrel Jack, like the ones on AC Adapters. SilenX has wired the fans in this manner to make hookup very simple. The plug just gets inserted into te main power unit that powers, and regulates the fan speed. Each fan has 1.5 meters of cable, so you should be have enough length to mount the fans in your cabinet where they'd be most effective. Once the fan is plugged in, and the unit is powered on, you will see a ring around the plug turn blue to indicate a good power connection to the fan.
