DoubleSight DS-305W
The LCD Panel used by DoubleSight for this display is an Amorphous Silicon Active Matrix TFT LCD, also known as an IPS Panel or a bit more specific the H-IPS Panel which currently is the best IPS panel on the market. This type of panel is near the middle of the top in terms of other panels on the market, which makes it a great all around monitor. The IPS Panel offers very good color accuracy which is great for graphical design as well as photo and video editing. And unlike other high-end panels, it is also good in gaming performance.
Below are some images taken with our Sony 7.2 MP camera to help compare the image quality between the DoubleSight display, with its IPS Panel, and a typical TN panel. Obviously these images are to our viewers discretion and the quality is limited to the hardware used capturing the devices image capability but we feel that you will still be able to properly judge between the two comparison images on their quality.
These next few comparison images show a scene from the hit movie and one of our personal all time favorites: The Dark Knight. The Joker (played by Heath Ledger, RIP) and his colorful appearance and outfit is a great way to show off the richness and vibrancy of color from the DoubleSight display compared to a TN panel's dim washed out color.
It's simple to say that this DoubleSight display has an amazing picture, but we did come across a problem when we first attempting to throw on our Blu-Ray copy of The Dark Night. When we went to play the movie we only got static. That is, of course, expected because this display does not support HDCP, which is required to play HD content such as Blu-Ray. We are rather disappointed with this because, well come on! Anyone who is going to spend $1,200 on a 30" LCD probably wants to do something more than work on it, and this is our main problem with this monitor. We hope that DoubleSight makes a revision in the near future that includes HDCP support. Until then, you can use AnyDVD HD, or similar software, to make a backup copy of your movie and watch it without HDCP being required.
