XILENCE Internal 3.5" Fan Control Panel
The fan controller itself is all black aluminum with a silver top to protect the electronics inside. The knobs are even milled rather than cheap plastic which is an excellent detail. Like mentioned before, this fan is a three fan controller and has a knob for each fan. But wait, there are four knobs? Yes! The fourth knob has two purposes. It can be used to control the brightness of the red LEDs that surround the knobs, or simply turn them off. But, this fan controller has a small microphone on the inside and the fourth knob can be used to adjust the sensitivity of the microphone. This will allow the red LEDs in the front to glow to your music if you play with the sensitivity.
The back of the fan controller is pretty basic and does what it is supposed to do. There are 3x fan connectors, as well as a 4pin molex power connection. Remember that 4pin molex extension cable? It will come in handy as this is a 3.5" controller and will sit shorter than most bay devices. The extension cable allows you to route power to it without having to undo all of your cable management.
Like I've mentioned before, the knobs are not some cheap plastic knobs that some other fan controllers use. They are very high quality and also very shiny at the front. The knobs also do not come off which is great. For anyone with a front door on their case, the knobs stick out about 13mm so make sure you have enough clearance for them. The fans can be controlled from practically 0% speed (off) to 100% speed, however FAN1 is limited between 7-12v, which is ruffly 60-100%. Xilence recommends using FAN1 for your CPU's fan so that you don't accidentally turn it off and make it run without any active cooling. Both FAN2 and FAN3, on the other hand, have no limitation to their speeds.
The LIGHT CONTROL knob is divided into two halves which can be seen by the little speaker icon in the top middle. If you turn the knob to the left of the icon, the lights will turn off. If you turn it to the right you will enable the sound sensitive lighting. If you turn it all the way to the right the lights will always be turned on. To the right of the knob are two little holes which marks the location of the microphone.
As mentioned before, the back is very simple. The fan headers go from right to left. They can either accept a single 3pin fan or use the included fan adapter cable. The adapter cable is also very long and you won't have any problem getting to the back of a full tower case. Xilence also includes a little warning about using the CPU fan on any other fan header except FAN1. The side of the fan controller is very basic as well and just has two holes for mounting the fan controller.
The red LEDs are very bright and can easily be seen in daylight. I had a blast watching them blink to my music while I was taking pictures of the controller. At night they are very bright and look very cool. But don't worry! You can turn the lights off before going to sleep.
