Nexus RX-8500 850 Watt 80-Plus Inaudible 15dB Nexus Power Supply
This power supply comes in a semi-gloss bronze finish and has plenty of ventilation like the honey comb design at the rear, which helps to exhaust heat dissipated by the 135mm fan. The fan itself is protected with a recessed grill, which will allow the power supply to be installed in any system that accepts a standard ATX power supply. All cables are sleeved for a nice clean and clutter-free look. Information for the power supply is listed on the side of the unit on an easy to read decal, which breaks down the wattage and how/where it is used to get the 850 watt total. The modular connection points on the power supply are very easy to attach and remove, thus allowing you to only use the leads that you need for your rig.
Hardwired to the power supply is one 20+4 pin Motherboard cable, two 6+2 Pin PCI-Express cables, one 4 pin connector, and one 8 pin connector. In modular form there is a cable with two 3x 4-pin Molex connector with 1 FDD connector. There is also two cables with 3x SATA connectors, There is also two 6-pin PCI-E cables.
Nexus tests the noise level of their power supply, they do this in an ISO-certified chamber and according to a prescribed set-up. The setup is according to reference standard ISO7779 2nd edition 1999.08.01 for Acoustic and ANSI/AMCA210-85. Measurement is done using a Brüel & Kjær microphone. It is important to know that the background noise in such a chamber is a little over 15 dB(A). These are the best possible conditions for testing and hence you should always be aware when a manufacturer is claiming dB(A) values that are lower than 15dB(A). Because how where they able to measure this? Nexus provide the real figures, from the actual tests. Here is the results, we were very satisfied with the results but what do you think?
The Nexus RX-8500 power supply is guaranteed to provide you with over 80% efficiency. This means the power supply is using the power it is drawing from the wall outlet more efficient and less electricity is wasted. Obviously this is better for the environment and it saves you on your electricity cost which results in a more efficient power supply resulting in a cooler power supply. So less cooling is needed which make the power supply even quieter. All of this is achieved with the assistance of Power Factor Correction (PFC) that allows the power distribution system to operate at maximum efficiency aiding to its overall 80+ rating.
