Newer Technology Voyager Q HDD Docking Station
Instead of listing out the many features of this docking station again, we'll just sum up what the dock doesn't have. No IDE drive support, and yup.. It has everything else. Although IDE is an old, and some may say dead, standard many of us still own IDE drives that we would like quick access to. Although this device does do just everything you'd want with a SATA HDD, you'll need to have a second device for IDE drives. Nevertheless, this unit has an amazing amount of features packed into a small dock with more uses than one can list while staying sane. Overall a well designed, well built, quality docking station; one of the best docks we've seen would highly recommend for anyone in the market for a hard drive dock.
| Area | Rating | Reason |
| Features | 5/5 | This docking station is packed with features! The ability to interface with PCs and Macs through the use of USB 2.0, Firewire 400/800, and eSATA, and docking for both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA I/II Hard Drives. All wrapped up in a toaster-like design makes this a very diverse docking station compared to the competition. |
| Performance | 3/5 | Performance was as to be expected with the interfaces that we tested. Obviously we highly recommend using eSATA if that is available to you on your system. We do look forward to when USB 3.0 becomes a standard and these docking stations are released with that connection, which will allow current mechanical SATA hard drives to operate at their full capability and then some when using solid state hard drives. Until then, the USB 2.0, eSATA and FireWire 400/800 connectivity on this dock will suffice. |
| Value | 4/5 | The value in this unit speaks for itself the moment you quickly pop in a drive and get quick access to its contents. Perfect for accessing the number of unused drives you may own, or docking drives for quick backup/recovery as an IT guy / gal. The ability to use 2.5" laptop drives and 3.5" drives, plus all of the connectivity options you could ever want make this an incredible value. |
